Śródmiejska Dzielnica Mieszkaniowa (ŚDM), better known as "Manhattan" (not to be confused with the famous place in the USA) is a residential complex in Łódź, Śródmieście. It started being built in 1975 and was finished by 1982. It includes, among others, the two tallest residential buildings in Łódź, each 78 meters high, though the range of the buildings' height overall starts at 46 meters. The external walls are made of reinforced concrete panels covered with asbestos-cement layer, which was removed in the 1990
Manhattan was always connected with art and artists. The Manhattan Gallery at 15 Wigury Street was an important meeting place and venue for art presentations.
